Your night brief
The planner asks for a U.S. ZIP or city, not your home address. Choosing “Make my night plan” sends that area to our Cloudflare-hosted service. Zippopotam.us resolves approximate coordinates; the National Weather Service supplies forecasts and active alerts. We do not create a location history or save your planner inputs in a database. Hosting and upstream providers may process request data in their operational logs under their own policies.
Your gear checkboxes stay on the page and reset when it reloads. If you choose “Remember my starting area, goal and group,” those preferences are stored only in this browser. Uncheck that option to remove the saved setup; you can also clear this site’s browser data. No saved forecast is restored: building a plan requests conditions again. Daily assignment completion is saved in your browser only. You can clear it through your browser settings. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies in this version.
Email updates
The optional newsletter link opens MailerLite. Only submit your email if you want updates. MailerLite handles that form and subscriber information; use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter to leave. Opening our site does not subscribe you.
What the information means
Nearby locations are research leads. Coordinates and air-mile distances do not establish legal nighttime access, a safe parking spot, a paved route or actual driving distance. Park rules, forecasts, closures and hazards can change. Check the land manager, destination forecast and your navigation route before leaving.
